1.  Introduction
Your Polaris universal remote control is simple to program, easy to use, and can operate up to 2 electronic devices which include:
  • CABLE - Cable converters (DVR's, HD Converters, and Standard Digital Converters)
  • TV - Televisions (HDTV or older)

Some of the special features on the Polaris universal remote control are:

  1. Illuminated Keypad - Useful to see you keypad in dark rooms. See Enabling/Disabling 'Backlighting' on your Keypad
  2. Code Search Programming
    Lets you program your TV or Cable devices without using codes, For more information, see
    searching for your code
  3. Permanent Memory Retention
    Eliminates reprogramming after battery changes.
  4. Time Out
    Shuts remote off if any button is pressed for over 30 seconds. This extends battery life in the event the remote becomes lodged under or between heavy objects and buttons are pressed.
  5. Clearing Custom Programming
    Lets you reset your remote to it's original default settings. For more information, see:

 

2.  Installing / Replacing Batteries
Install two (2) "AA" batteries as indicated by the diagram in the battery compartment. Be careful to properly match the "+ / -" ends of the batteries with the diagram in the battery compartment.

When the batteries become too weak to operate the remote control properly, the mode keys will become dim or not illuminate at all during use. When this happens, install 2 new "AA" size batteries.

Your remote control has Permanent Memory Retention, which eliminates reprogramming after battery changes.

 

3.  Programming Your Cable Converter

To program (setup) the remote to operate your CABLE converter...

  1. Turn on your CABLE converter.

  2. Aim the remote control at the CABLE converter and keep it pointed at the converter while programming.

  3. Press the [CBL] key.  The [CBL] key blinks once. Then press and hold the SETUP key until the [CBL] key blinks twice.



  4. From the Setup Code list below, locate and enter the 4-digit code for your brand and model.
    • If the code is legitimate for a CABLE converter, the device key blinks twice. If the key emits a single, long blink, then the code entry was not legitimate.

  5. Press [CBL]. If your CABLE converter turns off, you have successfully programmed your remote control for that device.
    • If the device does not turn off, then repeat steps 2 through 5 until you have found the code for that device.

  6. Try the [CH UP], [CH DOWN], and [MENU] buttons to make sure the proper code for this model was locked in.
    • If [CH UP], [CH DOWN] and/or [MENU] do not work, repeat steps 1-5 using a different setup code.

  7. Write your setup code down for future reference.

 

4.  Programming Your TV
If you have a TV operated by remote control, it is recommended that you plug it directly into a wall outlet instead of the cable converter.

To program (setup) the remote to operate your TV...

  1. Turn on your TV.

  2. Aim the remote control at the TV and keep it pointed at the TV while programming.

  3. Press the [TV] key.  The [TV] key blinks once. Then press and hold the SETUP key until the [TV] key blinks twice.



  4. From the Setup Code list below, locate and enter the 4-digit code for your brand and model.
    • If the code is legitimate for a TV, the device key blinks twice. If the key emits a single, long blink, then the code entry was not legitimate.

  5. Press [TV]. If your TV turns off, you have successfully programmed your remote control for that device.
    • If the device does not turn off, then repeat steps 2 through 5 until you have found the code for that device.

  6. Try the [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and [MUTE] buttons to make sure the proper code for this model was locked in.
    • If [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and/or [MUTE] do not work, repeat steps 1-5 using a different setup code.

  7. Write your setup code down for future reference.

 

5. Searching for your code
If your TV does not respond to the Polaris Remote Control after trying all of the codes listed for your brand, or if your brand is not listed at all, try searching for your code.
  1. Turn on your TV.
  2. Aim the remote control at the TV and keep it pointed at the TV while programming.
  3. Press the [TV] key once; it blinks once. Then press and hold [SETUP] until the TV key blinks twice.
  4. Enter ,,. The [TV] key blinks twice.
  5. Press the [TV] key once.
  6. Continually press and release [CH ] until the TV turns off. Every time you press [CH ], the remote is trying a different code. Go slowly.
    • Stop when the TV turns off.
  7. Press [SETUP] once to lock in the code. The TV key blinks twice.
  8. Press the [TV] key. If the TV turns on, you have successfully programmed your remote. If not, repeat steps 1-7 again. p;l
  9. Try the [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and [MUTE] buttons to make sure the proper code for this model was locked in.
    • If [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and/or [MUTE] do not work, repeat steps 1-7.

 

6Code Number Readback

To identify the 4-digit setup code for your TV, follow these steps:

  1. Press the [TV] key once; it blinks once. Then press and hold [SETUP] until the TV key blinks twice.
  2. Enter ,,. The [TV] key blinks twice.
  3. To view the code for the first digit, press 1 once. Count the number of times the TV key blinks (e.g., 3 blinks = 3)
    NOTE: If a code digit is 0, the selected mode key does not blink.
  4. Repeat step 3 three more times for the remaining digits. Use 2 for the second digit, 3 for the third digit, and 4 for the fourth digit.

  5. Write your setup code down for future reference.

 

 

7Button Functions
A majority of the buttons on the Polaris work exclusively for your cable converter. However, there are a few buttons that are designed to work exclusively for your TV.

When the [CBL] button lights up, you are operating a Converter function. When the [TV] button lights up, you are operating a TV function.

The chart below explains each button and their functions.

Pressing : Turns converter on / off.
Pressing : Turns TV on / off.
Pressing : Allows you to jump to the desired channel on the converter.
Pressing : Displays on-screen features, options on the converter. 
Pressing : Displays on-screen listing of programs by date, time, channel

Pressing  : Navigates on-screen menus, program guide, PPV events and interactive services.

Pressing : When in the interactive guide, choose "Favorite channels" from the on-screen menu. Pressing the blue FAV button on a selected channel will add it to your list of favorite channels.

When out of the interactive guide, pressing FAV will scroll through your list of favorite channels that you stored through the interactive guide.

Pressing : Exits on-screen menus, view guide.

Pressing : Increases / decreases TV (or converter) volume.

Pressing : Displays last channel viewed.

Pressing []: Swaps the tuner in the Dual Tuner DVR, so that you can watch one program and record another at the same time. (DVR only)

8.  Programming Volume Control
After you program your remote:
When your Remote is in this mode... Your volume/mute is controlled through ...
CABLE Your TV (default)
TV Your TV (default)

To control volume / mute through your CONVERTER.…

  1. Aim the remote control at the converter and keep it pointed at it while programming.
  2. Press the [CBL] key once; it blinks once. Then press and hold the [SETUP] key until the [CBL] key blinks twice.
  3. Enter ,,. The [CBL] key blinks twice.
  4. Try the [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and [MUTE] buttons to make sure the volume is now controlled through the Converter.

To control volume / mute back through your TV…

  1. Aim the remote control at the TV and keep it pointed at it while programming.
  2. Press the [TV] key once; it blinks once. Then press and hold [SETUP] until the [TV] key blinks twice.
  3. Enter ,,. The [TV] key blinks twice.
  4. Try the [VOL UP], [VOL DOWN] and [MUTE] buttons to make sure the volume is now controlled through the TV again.

 

 

9.  Enabling/Disabling 'Backlighting' on your Keypad
Your Polaris Remote Control has a feature that allows backlighting of all its keys. When backlighting is turned on, the keys to your remote control are lit when you press them.

To enable backlighting, do the following:

  • Quickly press the [SETUP] key twice. All the keys to your remote control are lit for a few seconds, allowing you to easily see them in low-light conditions. After you have activated backlighting, any time you press a key, the selected device key ([TV] or [CBL]) blinks once. After the device key blinks, all the keys on your Polaris Remote Control are lit for a few seconds.

To disable backlighting, do the following:

  • Quickly press the [SETUP] key twice. Keys no longer are lit when you press them. The selected device key ([TV] or [CBL])  still blinks once when you press a key.

 

10Helpful Tips and Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting / Tips
  1. If the same button is pressed and held for 30 seconds, your remote control will turn itself off automatically. This extends the battery life should the remote become lodged under or between heavy objects, for example sofa cushions.
  2. If you have a TV that’s operated by remote control, it is recommended that you plug it directly into a wall outlet instead of the cable set-top terminal.
  3. If you have any questions concerning the brand, model or operation of your cable set-top terminal, contact us.

Batteries Weak?
Low Battery Indication - when the batteries become low and need to be replaced, the [CBL], [TV] buttons will not illuminate normally, or at all, during operation. To rectify, install 2 new "AAA" size batteries to restore normal operation to the remote control..

Frequently Used Terms

Default Setting How your remote is set when you receive it from your cable operator. The programming that is retained even after a remote is reset.
Electronic Components /
Devices
The various electronic devices the remote is designed to operate. These include cable set-top terminals, TVs, VCRs, DVDs, receivers, amplifiers and CD players.
Program (Setup) The process of teaching your remote control to operate your electronic devices.
Transport Functions These are the  [], [], [], [], [], [] (Stop, Play, Fwd, Rew, Pause and REC) buttons. These buttons operate your Cable set-top features for VOD and DVR features.

 

11.  Clearing Custom Programming

The remote can be reset to its factory default settings if needed. 

  1. Press [SETUP] until the [CBL] or [TV] key blinks twice (depending on the mode you are in).

  2. Enter ,,. The [CBL] key will blink 4 times. All codes will now be CLEARED. Start programming your Polaris over again, as needed.
